About writing this book

To Protect the identity of my colorful, kind, cunning and a few half-criminal characters or combinations thereof, all their names have been changed as well as my own. Along with the towns, rivers, cities and businesses. Only my beloved companion Rastus, a Malamute-Doberman cross, retained his true identity. Razzer had more nicknames that were acceptable for any dog.

Back cover / Bakside

Come take a seat behind the wheel of Cam truck stocked full of every tool a man could dream for, and travel a wide area of small-town USA with Ingrid Lerbrekk and her sidekick Rastus.

Through smoldering heat and crippling snowstorms, Cam truck forges on to meet characters with golden boy looks or crazy eyes and missing fingers among personalities ranging from comical to downright scary. To papmer hammers called "Angel" and trade-in toolboxes called "Sue" Ingrid will use honesty as well as moxie to make it in the world of farms, junkyards, mechanic shops and places nicknamed "the Moom". Hoedowns and showdowns await Ingrid who does her best to roll with the punches and the blessings. From the start of her struggling business to the end of a flourishing one, Ingrid's stories will enlighten and entertain those who live in the worlds she visited and those who never knew they existed.

1st Runner-up Nonfiction 2006

When did I have time to write a book? Did I really do that? I devoted countless hours to Tool Tales for many years. I did everything wrong, backwards and upside down, but Tool Tales still turned out quite well. In fact, good enough to win 1st runner up in the 2006 Jada International Book contest in competition with hundreds of other books. Now you might think I'm living off my royalties, but I can assure you that couldn't be farther from the truth. Instead of hanging 10 on cloud nine after hearing about winning the prize, 3 years later, I understand all too well that I used tons of money, gobs of energy and patience on something that I only have a teeny, tiny, itsy-bitsy hope of ever seeing Tool Tales on a bookshelf. I did have 3 copies at a book store in Bryne, Norway and it burned down. I just can't take a hint! Actually the cover should have a red background and not blue, if you get the drift of things. However, just having a shred of hope and the experiance of actually seeing it through makes it worth the effort. Are you writing? Tell me about your book, dreams, hopes and disasters. elaine@hesbynett.no  ingrid.lerbrekk@tooltales.net   elaine@tooltales.net

A clean truck every Saturday

With Midwest weather, by Friday we were a bit grubby inside and out. My customers let me know about it, too! Here I am with Sammy my great mouser. He's in Tool Tales guarding the garage and stall.

Rastus ready for a day selling tools
Always ready, waiting and willing. What a great pal to have with me. Rastus and I had made it through many experiances together. I always felt safer when he was around, that is, when he was around and not off looking for bones at the local butcher. Rastus also has some "tails" to read about in Tool Tales.

Sammy was my best bud

Sammy, the greatest mouser ever. He could be batting one around on the  on the ground and have 3 tails hanging out of his mouth!

The 2 wolves that were chasing me! Chapter "Liars and Tires"

If you read Tool Tales you will find out about Whisper and Puzzle when they were chasing me through the woods and corn field on skies. I did believe I was going to end up on their dinner menu!

Right outside my window
Dusty and Chief were always a joy to look at in the pasture. Dusty was the horse who got me home when we did some exploring down on the dead end at the scary junk yard in Tool Tales.

Here's my Stormy Night
Lovely Stormy. He was old and had founderd hoofs when I took him with me on ny tool-selling adventure. It could only go one way, but he enjoyed his last days chasing a beautiful black mare, MG, on the bluffs along the big river. His story is in Tool Tales and after 30 years I can still get blurry-eyed writing about Stormy.
